The Franz Werfel Scholarship Program offers funded research stays in Austria for international scholars. Coverage

This fellowship provides a monthly grant of €2,500. Research stays typically last between four to nine months, with the possibility of extensions, potentially extending total assistance to eighteen months. For a nine-month stay, the total grant can exceed €22,500. Beyond financial support, the program includes post-fellowship support and networking opportunities, such as regular expert meetings and an annual Franz Werfel conference.

Eligibility

This scholarship is open to postgraduate students, PhD candidates, university instructors, and scholars from all countries worldwide, with the exception of Austria. Applicants must demonstrate a strong academic connection to Austrian literature. Ideal candidates will have teaching experience and an established university profile. Academic fit with a focus on Austrian literature is the most crucial factor; it is not intended for general linguistics students or comparative literature researchers without an Austrian component.

Requirements

Applicants are required to submit a completed application form, degree certificate, academic transcript, a valid passport, a CV or resume, a publication history, and two letters of recommendation. Any other relevant supporting documents should also be included.
