Overview

The Nordic Scholarship Programme offers students and researchers a one-month research stay at the Nordic Africa Institute (NAI) in Uppsala, Sweden. The program aims to build capacity in African studies and foster connections within Nordic research communities.

Coverage

The scholarship covers the least expensive travel fare from your residential address in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, or Iceland to Uppsala. It provides free centrally located accommodation, a desk and computer in a shared office at the Institute, and a daily subsistence allowance of SEK 450. Note: Health insurance is not included.

Eligibility

Applicants must be students (Master's level) or researchers (PhD candidates, postdoctoral, or mid-career) engaged in Africa-focused studies. You may be of any nationality, but you must be currently affiliated with and based at a university or research center in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, or Iceland at the time of application and during the scholarship period.

Requirements

Applicants must submit an up-to-date CV (including publications), a 3-5 page research project outline (objectives, methods, theoretical basis), a 1-page work plan for the stay at NAI, and a signed letter of support from a supervisor or head of department.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the official online portal linked above. Ensure your research proposal is written in your own words, as AI-generated content may negatively impact your assessment.

Notes

The research must focus on social sciences or humanities related to Africa. The stay is intended to facilitate the use of the Institute’s library collections.
