Overview

The NASA Hubble Postdoctoral Fellowships (NHFP) are prestigious opportunities for early-career astrophysics scientists to conduct independent theoretical, observational, and instrumental research that contributes to NASA Astrophysics. This is a compensated postdoctoral fellowship program in the United States.

Coverage

This fellowship provides paid employment-level research support. Benefits include salary assistance, health insurance for the fellow and eligible dependents, and reimbursement for travel and other research expenses. Please note that college tuition is not covered by this program. The funding is administered by the successful fellow's host institution and is contingent upon NASA funds being available.

Eligibility

This fellowship is open to applicants of any nationality, including Ethiopian students, who have completed or will complete all requirements for their doctoral degree on or after January 1, 2023, in astronomy, physics, or related disciplines. Individuals currently pursuing Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degrees are not eligible for this grant. Candidates are evaluated based on their potential for independent research, their research history, and their ability to clearly articulate the significance of their proposed research topic to NASA Astrophysics.

Requirements

Required documents include a completed NHFP Application Form, Academic Transcript, Degree Certificate, CV or resume, Passport or identification, a List of publications, a Research overview (which should not exceed eight pages, including tables and figures), and a Research proposal that is clearly connected to NASA Astrophysics. References should be included at the end of the research overview. Do not upload reprints, preprints, cover letters, cover sheets, or any additional unrequested documents.

Notes

The fellowship duration is up to three years, consisting of an initial one-year appointment that may be renewed up to twice annually, contingent on satisfactory performance and the availability of NASA funds. NASA anticipates awarding up to 24 fellowships for the 2027 cohort. The fellowships are tenable at a U.S. host institution of the fellow's choice, subject to a maximum of two new fellows per host institution per year, and one new fellow for institutions that took two new fellows the previous year. Host institutions must have verified their compliance with the NHFP employment policy.
