Overview

The RIKEN IMS Internship Program offers international students and young postdoctoral fellows the opportunity to conduct research at the RIKEN Center for Integrative Medical Sciences in Japan. The program aims to foster interdisciplinary research in fields such as immunology, bioinformatics, and genome-wide medical science.

Coverage

The program provides lodging and travel expenses for all interns. Category 1 (students) also receives a daily internship allowance of 3,000 yen on working days. Category 2 (postdocs) does not receive a daily allowance.

Eligibility

Open to international applicants. Category 1 is for students currently enrolled in a Master's or PhD program (or medical students at an equivalent level). Category 2 is for young postdocs who have obtained their PhD within the last three years. All applicants must be enrolled in an academic institution during the internship period.

Requirements

Applicants must submit a CV, a one-page purpose statement outlining research interests at RIKEN IMS, a one-page research background summary, and desired internship dates (1–3 months). A recommendation letter from the applicant's current supervisor must be sent directly to the host team leader.

How to apply

1. Identify a RIKEN IMS laboratory that aligns with your research interests. 2. Contact the team leader of that laboratory to discuss your proposed research topic. 3. Email the necessary application documents directly to the team leader of your chosen host laboratory. Applications should be submitted at least four months before the intended start date.

Notes

The internship duration is between 1 to 3 months. Applicants must ensure their research objectives align with the focus areas of RIKEN IMS.
