Road to Research Scholarship 2026 at Macquarie University

The Road to Research Scholarship 2026 at Macquarie University supports students undertaking the Master of Research (MRes) program. This scholarship is designed for onshore applicants in Australia who are interested in shorter research projects or pursuing a research career through comprehensive research-relevant training.

The scholarship provides a tuition fee offset for a maximum of one year and a living allowance stipend of $39,700 for one year.

This scholarship is open to both domestic and international applicants. To be eligible, applicants must be onshore in Australia at the time of application and intend to reside in Sydney, Australia, during their candidature. They must plan to commence a Master of Research in July 2026 (Session 2 2026) as full-time students. Applicants must meet Macquarie University's English language requirements for graduate research degrees and satisfy the admission criteria for the Master of Research. Confirmation of supervision from an eligible Macquarie University researcher is compulsory for those applying to the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences (FMHHS) and desirable for other faculties. International applicants will need a valid Student Visa or an alternative Australian visa that permits full-time study until the end of 2027. Awards are not available to individuals who have already commenced an MRes or PhD at Macquarie, currently hold another scholarship for the same program, or have previously held a scholarship for the same program.

Applicants must meet the minimum entry criteria for the Master of Research, including academic merit and English language proficiency. Overseas qualifications will be assessed using Australian Government guidelines to determine their comparability to the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). Confirmation of supervision is required for some faculties.

Online applications for a July 2026 commencement (Session 2 2026) will close on April 30, 2026 (AEST). Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit their applications as early as possible before the deadline. Applications are assessed and ranked primarily based on academic merit and research experience. The alignment of the proposed research topic with the University’s research priorities and the strength of the supervisory team may also be considered. Incomplete applications will be withdrawn and cannot be held over for future scholarship rounds.

Outcomes for applications will be issued in June 2026. If an applicant does not receive an outcome notification by mid-June 2026, their application should be considered unsuccessful.
