Overview

The Royal Society Entrepreneur in Residence (EiR) program is designed to increase the knowledge and awareness of industrial science and research in UK universities. It connects experienced entrepreneurs and industrial scientists with university staff and students to foster innovation and business development.

Coverage

The award provides a salary of £25,000 per year for the duration of the program. It also covers travel costs, accommodation (if required), and project-related expenses such as conference attendance, workshops, and training.

Eligibility

Applicants can be of any nationality, provided they are eligible to work in the UK. Candidates must have a background in science or engineering and demonstrate experience working in an industrial research context.

Requirements

Candidates must possess experience in at least one of the following: managing collaborations between universities and businesses, entrepreneurship (company formation), or experience/interest in training and mentoring. Applicants can be full-time, part-time, or self-employed.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the Royal Society’s Flexi-Grant system. You must register an account, complete the project proposal, provide career and organizational details, and invite your employer's head of department, the host university's head of department, and two nominated referees to support your application.

Notes

The program duration is 2 years. The award covers all fields of life sciences, physical sciences, and engineering; however, clinical medicine is excluded.
