Overview

The UNFPA Global Internship Roster 2026 is a paid internship program offered by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). It provides an opportunity for students and recent graduates worldwide to engage in meaningful work related to reproductive health, gender equality, and population issues. Interns will contribute to global initiatives and gain first-hand experience within a UN agency. Multiple duty stations are available globally.

Coverage

This is a paid internship program. Interns receive a stipend, typically paid monthly in local currency, which is intended to cover living expenses. This financial support allows interns to focus on their work without significant financial burden.

Eligibility

Nationality: Open to students and recent graduates from around the world. Ethiopian students are eligible. Academic Level: Applicants must be enrolled in a first university degree program (e.g., bachelor’s degree) and have completed at least one full academic year, OR be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program (e.g., master’s program or higher). Recent graduates with a university degree are eligible if they start the internship within one year of graduation. Participation as part of a postgraduate professional trainee program is also accepted. Other: Candidates must demonstrate interest in the field of development. Proficiency in written and spoken communication in at least one of the UN’s working languages (English or French) is required, along with fluency in the official language of the specific UNFPA office (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, or Spanish). Interns should be adaptable to new environments and capable of establishing effective working relationships with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. Individuals with a close family member (father, mother, son, daughter, brother, or sister) employed as a staff member at UNFPA are ineligible.

Requirements

Documents: Not clearly stated, but an online application form will need to be completed. Language: Proficiency in English or French (UN working language) and the official language of the duty station. Other: Interest in development, ability to adapt and work in diverse teams.

How to apply

Applicants should visit the official application portal and carefully fill out the online application form. There is no application fee at any stage of the application process. Ensure all eligibility criteria are met before applying.

Notes

This internship offers valuable experience in a diverse, multicultural environment and exposure to different perspectives. It can serve as a stepping stone for future career opportunities within UNFPA and the broader UN system.
