Overview

The Cartography and Geographic Information Society (CaGIS) offers annual scholarship awards to recognize academic achievement and support outstanding students in cartography and geographic information science. These scholarships also acknowledge significant potential for original research that advances these disciplines.

Coverage

CaGIS will award up to three Master’s Scholarships, each valued at $400. Additionally, up to five Doctoral Scholarships will be awarded, each valued at $1,000. These are partial awards intended to support students.

Eligibility

This scholarship is open to students currently enrolled in a four-year undergraduate or graduate degree program who are studying cartography, geographic information science, or a closely related field. There are no explicit nationality restrictions mentioned, making Ethiopian students eligible to apply. The specific awards are for Master's and Doctoral level students.

Requirements

Applicants must submit the following materials: - A 1000-word statement detailing educational objectives, research activities, the importance and impact of your research, future study and research plans, how your research supports the CaGIS mission, and your service activities in the profession. This statement should describe your contributions and potential in the field. - A curriculum vitae (CV). - A digital copy of your transcript showing records from at least the last two years. Highlight courses that contribute to your “core GPA” in cartography, GIS, geography, computer science, mathematics, statistics, geodetic science, data visualization, or remote sensing. - A letter of nomination from a faculty member or supervisor familiar with your academic and research activities. Either the applicant or the nominator must be a current CaGIS member.

Applications are accepted through the official Google Form link provided. Ensure all required materials are prepared and submitted by the deadline.
