Overview

The Fully Funded AKS Graduate Fellowship 2026 is a non-degree program offered by the Academy of Korean Studies in South Korea. It is designed for international Master's and PhD students interested in Korean studies, providing a six-month research opportunity. The program focuses on experiencing Korean culture, research, and academic life, rather than just theoretical study. There is no application fee and IELTS is not required.

Coverage

This is a fully-funded opportunity. Selected fellows will receive a monthly stipend of 750,000 KRW, round-trip airfare, and free accommodation. It also provides access to academic libraries, research tools, and a strong academic environment at the Graduate School of Korean Studies.

Eligibility

Applicants must be foreign nationals or overseas Koreans who have completed their entire education outside South Korea. You must be a Master's graduate or currently a PhD student (before completion) studying at an overseas university. Your research topic must be related to Korean Studies. Having good Korean language skills is a plus. Previous recipients of this fellowship are not eligible to apply again.

Requirements

Required documents include a Personal Statement (around 2 pages), a Research Plan (around 3 pages with full details), academic transcripts and certificates, a passport copy and ID photo, and language test scores (if available). All files should be clear and uploaded in PDF/Word format. A recommendation letter from your professor/supervisor must be sent directly by the recommender to [email protected]; it cannot be sent from your own email.

How to apply

Visit the application portal at https://gradaks.recruiter.co.kr. Read the 2026 AKS Graduate Fellowship Application Guidelines before applying. Create an account and log in. Fill in personal and academic details carefully. Select an AKS professor as your academic advisor based on your research topic (this is crucial, applications without a selected professor will be disqualified). Upload all required documents. Review your application thoroughly and submit it before the deadline.

Notes

This is a non-degree program for a duration of six months. It offers a chance to build confidence, independence, and a global mindset while experiencing life and culture in South Korea.
