The President’s PhD Scholarships at Imperial College London offer up to 50 fully funded doctoral opportunities for outstanding students from around the world. These scholarships are designed to support talented individuals in pursuing their PhD research under expert supervision for a duration of up to 3.5 years, fostering a diverse and inclusive academic environment.

Coverage

This scholarship is fully funded. It covers the full tuition fees for the PhD program. Scholars will receive an annual stipend of £27,036 to cover living costs. Additionally, a consumable fund of £2,000 per year is provided for the first three years of the PhD program. International students will also receive visa assistance and access to free English Language Courses. Tailored assistance is available for students with disabilities.

Eligibility

Nationality: Open to candidates of any nationality, including Ethiopian students. Academic Criteria: Applicants must hold, or be about to receive, a first-class UK bachelor's or master's degree, or an equivalent qualification. If you have a standalone master's degree, you must have achieved or be about to achieve a distinction in that program. If you have multiple standalone master's degrees, one must have a distinction and be relevant to your proposed PhD program. Supervisor Confirmation: Candidates must have contacted a potential supervisor at Imperial College London and received confirmation of their willingness to supervise the research work. Current Students: Only new PhD students are eligible; those already enrolled in a PhD program at Imperial College London are not eligible.

Requirements

Proof of distinction (if applicable). Academic Certificates or degrees. A detailed Research Proposal. Reference Letters (specific requirements for reference letters should be checked on the official website).

How to apply

Candidates do not need to apply separately for the scholarship and admission. The scholarship is applied for as part of the PhD admission application. Apply for admission online through Imperial College London’s Online Admissions System. When writing your personal statement, ensure the first page outlines your personal interest, and the second page contains your research proposal. Write your statement in the first person. In the additional questions tab of the application form, you must select the funding section to indicate your interest in this scholarship. Be sure to fulfill all specific requirements of your chosen academic department.
