Overview

The University of Chicago Harris Social Impact Fellowship is an 11-month, full-time program for recent graduates and early-career professionals with strong technical, quantitative, or analytical skills. It combines intensive academic training with practical work on important social and public policy challenges. The program starts in July 2027 and runs through June 2028 at the University of Chicago’s Hyde Park campus in the USA.

Coverage

This is a fully-funded fellowship. Fellows receive a total support package of $96,000, which includes a $75,000 stipend for living and healthcare expenses and $21,000 to cover the academic credential. Additionally, fellows benefit from mentorship, professional development workshops, applied research experience, networking opportunities with policy leaders, faculty, alumni, and civic leaders, and a chance to work with leading research centers and policy institutes.

Eligibility

Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree before the fellowship starts and be either a recent college graduate or an early-career professional. Strong technical, quantitative, or analytical skills are required, which should be demonstrated through coursework, research, or work experience. Candidates must also show an interest in evidence-based social impact and public policy. This fellowship is open to international students, including those from Ethiopia.

Requirements

Applicants need to prepare and submit the following documents: a Resume/CV, a Statement of Purpose, academic Transcripts, and Letters of Recommendation.

How to apply

To apply, candidates must prepare all the required documents (Resume/CV, Statement of Purpose, Transcripts, Letters of Recommendation). The application should be submitted online through the official University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy website. The application for the 2027-2028 cohort is currently open.

Notes

The fellowship follows a clear learning path: eight weeks of intensive academic coursework in research methods, data analytics, economic analysis, and analytical politics; followed by nine months of applied learning with research centers or policy institutes focusing on real-world challenges like educational equity, climate action, public safety, health equity, and government efficiency. The program culminates in a data-driven capstone project.
