Overview

The World Bank Group Young Professionals Program (WBG YPP) is a premier two-year leadership development initiative for highly talented individuals passionate about global development. It leads to a five-year employment contract with the World Bank Group, International Finance Corporation (IFC), or Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA). The program aims to develop future leaders for global impact, offering technical expertise, international experience, and contributions to pressing development challenges.

Coverage

This is a fully-funded employment opportunity. Benefits include basic life and accident insurance, a pension plan, relocation costs upon appointment, and resettlement benefits at the end of employment. Expatriate staff receive a mobility premium, visa processing, and residency status. Staff are granted paid leave (26 days annual, 15 days sick, parental leave of 100 days for primary caretaker and 50 days for secondary). Workplace facilities such as a Health Services Department, fitness center, childcare, and lactation room are also available.

Eligibility

Applicants must not have been born before October 1, 1990. Candidates must hold a master’s or doctoral degree in a field relevant to the YPP's business areas. They should have relevant work experience or be currently enrolled in a doctoral program. Proficiency and fluency in English are required. While open to all nationalities, candidates from World Bank Group member countries and countries of operation will be preferred. Ethiopian students are eligible.

Requirements

Required documents include a CV/Resume (ideally 1-2 pages), a passport photo page confirming date of birth and primary nationality, and academic transcript(s) or enrollment letter(s) verifying postgraduate qualifications and expected completion dates. Applicants must also write a short essay (maximum 750 words or 4,500 characters) addressing how the World Bank Group can help client countries achieve green, resilient, and inclusive development, including rebuilding progress lost on the WBG’s twin goals.

How to apply

The application must be completed in a single 90-minute online session; it cannot be saved and continued later. Applicants must select one of the three institutions (WB, IFC, or MIGA) based on their skills and academic background. Duplicate applications will not be entertained. Shortlisted candidates will undergo virtual interviews and a time-based, computer-based financial test. The application portal opens on September 1, 2026.

Notes

The application deadline is September 30, 2026, at 11:59 PM UTC. Late applications will not be considered.
