Overview

This is a 12-week full-time paid summer research internship program at Google. The program aims to develop and test new ideas to improve Google products and technologies. Interns will work on real research problems within various Google teams, collaborating with Google researchers and engineers. The internship focuses on areas such as machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI), data science, systems, and related research fields. It provides an opportunity to gain exposure to Google's large-scale research systems and understand how research is applied in the industry.

Coverage

This is a paid internship opportunity. Selected interns will receive a competitive salary (monthly or hourly pay). Interns will have the chance to work at a world-leading tech company, engage with real-world problems, and receive mentorship from top professionals.

Eligibility

Applicants must be currently enrolled in a Master’s degree or PhD program in Computer Science, Linguistics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical field. Candidates should have experience in at least one area of Computer Science, such as Large Language Models, Natural Language Understanding, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Algorithmic Foundations of Optimization, or Software Engineering. Proficiency in programming languages like C/C++, Java, or Python is also required. This opportunity is open to all nationalities, including Ethiopian students, as no specific country restrictions are mentioned and Google is a global company.

Requirements

Required documents include an updated resume/CV, a current unofficial or official transcript in English, and a cover letter.

How to apply

To apply, you need to create a profile on the Google careers website. This involves providing your required personal details and uploading your resume. Subsequently, you will need to provide your contact information, higher education details, and work experience. You will also explain your skills, select your preferred working location(s), and provide a cover letter. Additionally, you will answer questions regarding citizenship and work authorization, and complete voluntary self-identification questions. After reviewing all your information and agreeing to the terms and conditions, you can submit your application form.

Notes

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, meaning there is no fixed deadline, and applications are reviewed as they are received. The program runs for 12 weeks during the summer of 2026. For internships in Australia, the program typically starts in late November 2026. The internship is offered in multiple locations globally.
