Overview

The Singapore AI Safety Fellowship is a fully funded, three-month independent research program designed for emerging researchers globally. It aims to address rising AI safety concerns by fostering cross-regional collaboration and training researchers to build secure AI systems. Fellows will conduct research under the mentorship of experienced researchers, focusing on technical AI safety and governance, with the goal of informing real-world AI safety practices and policy.

Coverage

This is a fully funded fellowship. Participants will receive a stipend of $5,000 SGD per month, with housing provided throughout the fellowship duration. Travel expenses to and from Singapore will also be covered. Fellows will receive mentorship from experienced researchers, dedicated research managers for support, and up to $30,000 USD in compute for required projects. The program includes talks, workshops, seminars, and social events to facilitate networking.

Eligibility

Applicants must be emerging researchers from around the world. They should be willing to work in an international and collaborative environment, possess a strong track record in technical research, and have a keen interest in AI's development. Candidates must be comfortable working across different cultures and disciplines and be available to work full-time for three months in Singapore.

Requirements

Applicants are required to submit one technical project, technical paper, or technical work sample related to their contribution to AI safety research. Other relevant supporting documents may also be required. Details of two references must be provided as part of the application.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted through the online application form. The process involves filling out personal information, providing logistics-related details, answering fellowship assessment questions, uploading required documents, choosing a mentor, mentioning details of two references, and agreeing to the terms and conditions before submitting the form. An optional virtual info session is available on July 1, 2026, for interested candidates.

Notes

The fellowship will run from September 21 to December 4, 2026. Fellows will be based at SASH’s hub in Chinatown, Singapore. The program is advised by Ryan Kidd, Co-Executive Director of the MATS Program. The fellowship emphasizes building trusted relationships and shared understanding for sustained AI safety collaboration across borders, technical depth, research excellence, and applying research to policy.
